Kaikido

(Founder’s Hall)
Sokoji was a Soto Zen temple founded by a monk called Getsuan Ryoen in the late 14th century.
The hall is dedicated to Lord Masanobu Sato who helped construction of the temple.
Tsugunobu Sato, an ancestor of Lord Masanobu, fought for the Minamoto clan in the Genpei War in the late 12th century, and sacrificed his life to help his superior Yoshitsune (Tale of the Heike).

(Wooden Fish)
Visitors find a large wooden fish hung up in the air. It is a Zen Buddhist ritual implement used during mealtime.

Carved Wooden Ranma (Transom) 

Visitors find beautifully carved wooden ranmas (transoms) above the partitions of room in the main hall of temple.

Legend has it that the founder of this temple brought this cherry here. The trees produce sweet fragrant blooms.
